High Viscosity Mixing Equipment

A high viscosity mixer is designed for processing materials that are more difficult to move and blend than low-viscosity liquids. These applications can be found in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, and chemical production, where products such as creams, ointments, pastes, gels, adhesives, and other semi-solid materials require controlled mixing.
The appropriate mixing solution depends on the characteristics of the product and the production process. For high-viscosity applications, mixing may also need to be combined with heating, cooling, vacuum, or homogenizing functions.
What Is a High Viscosity Mixer?

A high viscosity mixer is used when conventional liquid mixing is not sufficient for the material being processed.
As viscosity increases, the behavior of the product during mixing changes. The equipment therefore needs to be selected according to the product characteristics and the required processing functions.
For semi-solid and emulsified products, the system may integrate several operations within one processing tank. ShababTec's available equipment documentation describes systems that combine mixing, vacuuming, heating, cooling, and homogenizing functions for high-viscosity applications. Mixer for High Viscosity Fluids

Selecting a mixer for high viscosity fluids should begin with understanding the material and the intended production process.
Applications can vary considerably. In cosmetics, high-viscosity processing may involve skin creams, hair gels, lotions, and similar products. Pharmaceutical applications can include ointments and pastes, while food and chemical production may involve products such as jam, chocolate, sauces, adhesives, and detergents. Semi Solid preparation (1)
Because these products behave differently during processing, the same mixer configuration should not automatically be used for every application.
Mixing and Homogenizing

Some high-viscosity products require more than basic agitation. Emulsions and semi-solid materials may require homogenization as part of the preparation process.
In these applications, high viscosity mixing equipment can combine agitation and homogenizing functions within the same processing system.
The tank itself can include a body, cover, agitator, supporting structure, transmission device, and shaft sealing system. Additional connections can also be incorporated for feeding, discharge, observation, temperature measurement, pressure monitoring, and other process requirements. Semi Solid preparation (1)
Heating and Cooling

Temperature can also be an important factor when processing viscous products.
Depending on the production requirements, heating or cooling can be integrated into the mixing tank. Available configurations can include jacket electric heating or coil heating, while cooling can also be incorporated according to the required process. Semi Solid preparation (1)
Combining these functions with the mixing system can allow the product to remain in the same processing vessel through multiple preparation stages.
Choosing High Viscosity Mixing Equipment

The correct high viscosity mixing equipment should be selected around the actual production application rather than simply choosing a standard tank.
Important considerations include the type of product, its viscosity, required mixing and homogenizing functions, heating or cooling requirements, material of construction, feeding arrangement, discharge arrangement, and other process conditions.
Stainless steel grades such as 304, 304L, and 316L can be used according to product and customer requirements. Semi Solid preparation (1)
Integrated Mixing Solutions

A properly selected mixer for high viscosity fluids can form part of a larger liquid and semi-solid preparation system.
ShababTec provides equipment for liquid and semi-solid preparation, including preparation mixers, storage tanks, and heating or cooling tanks. The documented applications cover pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, and chemical products. Semi Solid preparation (1)
For high-viscosity production, selecting the mixer around the characteristics of the material and the required processing stages helps create a more appropriate solution for the intended application.
